YO MANILA, Rover Jones |
Unbelievable. Amazing, even!
That’s how you’ll probably describe Congressman-elect Romulo “Kid” Valderrama Peña, Makati City’s first district representative. In case you didn’t know, he’s the guy who beat former Vice President Jojo Binay, an erstwhile unbeatable figure in Makati politics for decades.
Well-loved by Makati Citizens
It is a fact that Peña, a former youth leader and Vice Mayor (and Acting Mayor) of the Philippines’ premier business city is well-loved by Makateños. He is seen everywhere helping his people and frequents in almost all funerals and baptisms in his district.
Revered as a true-blue public servant, Peña is always ready to help even when he was not yet campaigning, according to his constituents.
First of Its Kind Anywhere
Last month, a newspaper featured Peña campaigning alone with a placard in front of an exclusive village in Makati City.
Personally, the only person I know who campaigned almost similar to what Cong. Kid has done, is (the late) former Congressman Roilo Golez who several times stood at the entrance of Multinational Village in Parañaque City in the presence of a handful of supporters waving at villagers of the exclusive enclave.
So, when Peña stood in front of parishioners of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish in Barangay Palanan in Makati City, he upped his level of humanity, more than just public service.
Simply because not many politicians will even go this far in thanking their supporters.
Some posts from his Facebook Page include:
Rick Bocaoco – “Epitome of a true leader. Good luck Cong. Kid. God bless you in Congress!”
Lolit Angeles Martinez – “Congratulations! You deserve it.”
Arren Pee Felix Taday – “The best ka talaga my Congressman. Ikaw lang ang kayang gumawa nyan. Iba ka sa lahat. Mabuhay ka Kid Peña!”
Rocelie Gasper – “Di po ako taga-Makati pero nakaranas po kami ng pagtulong nya. Congrats po!”
Arvin Sipat – “Yan si Cong. Kid Peña. Di kailangan lapitan. Siya na lumalapit sa constituents nya….. BIG SALUTE CONGRESSMAN Kid Pena 1st district ng Makati City!”
What to Expect from Cong. Kid
Congressman-elect Peña had a Ten-Point Agenda during his campaign speeches. Many of his constituents are probably excited to see him accomplish his campaign promises as they have seen him work and help people even without being a local official the past few years.
Peña promises to be an effective Congressman with the passage of relevant laws that will be beneficial to Makateños. This is besides the medical and financial services that his constituents need most. He said he will stay true to his promises of support in terms of education, livelihood and other assistance for students, PWDs, senior citizens, stay-at-home parents, retirees and single parents.
When Congressman-elect Peña finally starts his official duties in a little over a month’s time, Makateños anticipate a better brand of public service from this “Kid” who many compare to the late Secretary Jesse Robredo, less the “tsinelas.”
