Several months ago, the country’s largest phone carrier, PLDT Incorporated, promised FREE 1Gbps WiFi in 21 major transportation terminals  within 100 days. True to their word, Sec. Arthur Tugade revealed this today, that FREE WiFi connections will now be available in Terminals 1, 2 and 3 by tomorrow.  The WiFi connections are said to have a 1 Gbps connection.

PLDT Chairman Manuel Pangilinan has agreed to this project earlier and said that Smart Communications will spearhead the WiFi rollout at no cost to the government.

Sec. Arthur Tugade also said that Smart Communications is true to their word in supporting the government’s thrust to make passengers’ travel experience more comfortable, convenient, and connected.

The project is non-exclusive to Smart Communications, and are open for collaboration if other telecommunication providers are also willing to help out.

PLDT Chairman Manuel Pangilinan also said the agreement between PLDT and the Department of Transportation and Communication will make more business sense, as this will mean higher traffic for the country in terms of investments and revenues.

There are also ongoing projects and plans to include the airports in Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Kalibo, Laguindingan, General Santos, Clark, Laoag, Cebu, Aklan, and Zamboanga.

Smart’s free Wi-Fi service will also be available in LRT1 and LRT2, the MRT, and the ports in Batangas and Mindoro.
