Yo Manila | C-level Roundtables: Where Are The Women? | Behind the curtains of the world’s best private dining rooms, The Ortus Club is hosting knowledge-sharing discussions for c-level executives who want to discuss topical business issues freely. The events can be attended by executives across different sectors and from companies of all sizes.
Recently, a picture posted on their LinkedIn page sparked a discussion. The photo captured the attendees of a roundtable they hosted at the private members’ club of Le Cercle de L’union Interalliée in Paris. This dinner was brought about to encourage conversation between finance executives about the meaning of being a CFO. And while this made for good dialogue, it also brought to light another much-needed conversation well after the event: where are the women? Are they less likely to attend knowledge-sharing discussions? Or are they not part of the c-suite at all?
We got in touch with The Ortus Club to ask about their observations on female leadership and whether they have been noticing a difference between countries and sectors. “We have definitely seen more women at our tables in 2018, but that could have been because the topics (and therefore job titles) that we hosted have been more marketing oriented”, said Jessica Circi, Managing Partner at The Ortus Club, clarifying that their discussions had been more focused on real estate and finance in 2017. “To give you a number, if we look at all the guests who participated in our discussions around the world,” she continued, “only about 20% of them were women.”
The Ortus Club has been working with organisations such as KeyNote – Asia’s Women Speakers and will be running a series of interviews with women in c-level positions to gather their thoughts on women in the c-suite.
